Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was the first woman to train as a doctor in the UK.
She had political flair, medical skill, administrative and fundraising ability, independence of mind, honesty and kindness. She set the standard for women doctors and gave women a choice.
The Aims of EGA for Women
We are a group of people who believe the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital (EGAH) should be preserved as a memorial to the life and work of Dr. Elizabeth Garret Anderson, in recognition of her enormous contribution to medical history and to the history of women in the UK.
We also want to see her original aim of a medical service run by women for women restored at the newly built University College Hospital.
